LBI Moonlight Magic - 2025 Full Moon Guide
by Shelly the Seagull
We all know that summer days on Long Beach Island are amazing – but summer nights— they are downright magical especially during a full moon on a gorgeous summer evening. This summer you’ll want to mark your calendar and experience a whole new kind of sparkle when the moon rises big and bright over the waves.
Here are the full moons to look out for this summer, plus some fun things to do under the moonlight, aside from reading my fun new children’s book about LBI.
Full Moon Dates – Summer 2025
🌕 June 12 – Strawberry Moon
🌕 July 11 – Buck Moon
🌕 August 9 – Sturgeon Moon
🌕 September 7 – Harvest Moon (Okay, not technically summer, but we all know September is spectacular on LBI)
How to Celebrate the Full Moon on LBI
1.. Full Moon Lighthouse Climb
For one of the most memorable full moon experiences head to the lighthouse. The lighthouse opens up for a few evening a summer and offers a full moon lighthouse climb to take in the epic full moon and views from the top. Check the Barnegat Lighthouse State Park website for dates and times. Some evenings they may have live music and bonfires too!
2. Yoga Under the Moon at LBIF
Looking for peace, quiet, and a little moonlit stretching? The Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts & Sciences (LBIF) offers Full Moon Yoga sessions during the summer. You’ll feel calm, grounded, and totally at peace under the stars.
3. Full Moon Parties at The Sea Shell
If you’re more into dancing than downward dog, head to The Sea Shell Resort in Beach Haven. They host lively Full Moon Parties complete with DJs, dancing, and drinks.
4. Full Moon Beach Walks
There’s nothing quite like the moonlight bouncing off the waves as you stroll the shoreline. Don’t forget to bring a flashlight—and maybe spot some ghost crabs and other sea creatures while you’re at it!
5.. Moonrise Picnics on the Beach, Stagazing & Storytime
Pack your favorite treats and head to to the beach to watch the moon rise over the ocean with friends and family—it’s one of the most peaceful and beautiful ways to spend a summer evening. After the sun sets and the moon rises, snuggle up on a blanket and read your favorite story (hint hint… Shelly’s book!) while gazing at the stars. It’s a relaxing and magical way to wind down the day.
Tips for the Best Moon Watching
Bring a flashlight and bug spray
Check the moonrise time for your location within the tide charts
Dress in layers and bring extra blankets—it gets breezy at night!
The full moon is a perfect excuse to memories with your flock on. LBI. So next time the moon rises over the waves, lift your eyes to the sky and let the magic take over.
Moon you later,
