10 Must Do Things on LBI This Summer
I don’t know about you, but I sure can’t wait for summer! Summer on Long Beach is just so special. It is packed with traditions, festivals and unforgettable moments. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a seasoned seagull like Shelly, here are 10 must-do adventures that deserve a spot on your LBI summer bucket list
1. Join the Memorial Day Bike Parade
The Beach Haven Memorial Day Parade is scheduled for Monday, May 26 starting at 10 am on Taylor Avenue. Grab your bikes and deck your wheels in red, white, and blue and ride with hundreds of other kids, and families to celebrate the start of summer as we honor our country's brave Veterans. The parade ends at Veteran’s Memorial Park with service honoring and remembering our local heroes.
2. Peruse the Viking Village Craft Shows
Mark your calendars for some of the best craft shows around. Viking Village in Barnegat Light holds three craft shows during the summer – May 25, July 13 and August 13. .These charming shows feature local artists, handmade goods, and beachy treasures. It is a must-do to stop by and admire the creativity!
3. Get Sweet at the Annual Chocolate Fair
Calling all sweet tooths for the most delicious evening of the summer, The LBI Historical Association’s Annual Chocolate Fair will be held on August 7! This tasty tradition offers every chocolate treat you can imagine. It’s almost too good to be true. While your there you can learn more about all the different offerings the Historical Society offers like ghost tours, historic talks and more.
4. Cheer at the Blue Claw Crab Race & Craft Show
A quirky LBI classic! Held on July 20 from 9 am - 3pm at Sunset Park in Surf City, this annual event pits crustacean against crustacean in a race to remember. Bring your camera—and your competitive spirit! While there racing your crabs you can peruse the many crafts from local artists.
5. Watch Indie Films at the Lighthouse International Film Festival
This annual event will be held on June 4-8. This unique cultural event brings independent films, filmmakers, and film lovers to the island. Visitors can buy passes to see the films or purchase an all access pass to join in on parties, masterclasses and breakfast with the filmmakers! Catch a screening under the stars or attend a panel near the sea.
6. Jam Out at Live Music in Bicentennial Park
Summer nights in Beach Haven are best spent on the grass at Bicentennial Park, where free concerts fill the air with music and community vibes. Pack a blanket and dance like no one’s watching. The concerts run every Wednesday evening and feature a variety of bands and genres. It is a perfect after dinner treat.
7. Enjoy Happy Hour at The Sea Shell Resort
Few places do beachside cocktails and live music better. When the sun starts to dip, the Sea Shell it is a perfect spot to toast the day with your toes in the sand and a drink in hand. Grab a drink, enjoy the ocean view, and soak in the LBI summer vibes.
8. Dance & Sing for Your Dessert at the Showplace
The Showplace is a classic ice cream parlor with some of the best singing waiters and waitresses around! And don’t be shy, audience participation is encouraged. It is a must do at least once a summer.
9. Play Mini Golf (At Least Once!)
With so many courses, from pirate-themed to classic windmills, mini golf is a rite of passage on LBI. Choose from – Flamingo Golf, Hartland, Mr. Tees Settler's Milland, Sand Trap just to name a few. If you are up for a challenge, Summer Tournaments are held at Hartland every Wednesday at 9 am with a door prize drawing in over $200 in great prizes.
10. Catch a Sunset and Reflect
No summer is complete without a sunset over the bay. Whether you’re at Sunset Park, Holgate, or the top of a dune, take a quiet moment to be thankful for the simple joys of LBI.
