The Top Five Spots to Watch the Sunset

There’s nothing quite like the sunsets on Long Beach Island. It is one of my favorite times to fly around the island.  As the sky bursts into shades of pink, orange, and purple, the island transforms into a magical place. Whether you’re a visitor or a longtime LBI lover, finding the perfect sunset spot makes the end of the day even more special. As a seagull, I have the best view from above, but here are my favorite spots where you can enjoy a picture-perfect LBI sunset!

1. Barnegat Lighthouse

One of the most iconic places on LBI, Barnegat Lighthouse offers breathtaking sunset views. You can watch the sun sink beyond the horizon along the beach or jetty, but if you want a truly special experience, climb to the top of the lighthouse during one of the sunset climbs offered throughout the year.  You will truly have a bird’s-eye view of the best sunset around.

2. Sunset Park - Harvey Cedars

Sunset Park lives up to its name! This bayside park is one of my favorite’s to stop by for a magical sunset experience. There are benches, a dock, and plenty of space to spread out a blanket and watch the sky turn colors. On some nights, you might even catch live music, making it an even better experience.

3. Bayview Park - Brant Beach

If you’re looking for a family-friendly spot to watch the sunset, Bayview Park in Brant Beach is perfect. This bayside park has picnic tables  playground, and a dock, making it a great place to relax as the sun sets over the bay. Kids can play while parents enjoy the peaceful view.

4. Bird Sanctuary - Holgate

For a quieter, more natural sunset experience, I like to head to Holgate and head to the southern tip of the island to Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge.  Here you will find so many of my fellow feathered friends. Be sure to say hello to the piping plovers, ducks, as well as, crabs, and other wildlife while watching the sunset. The colors reflecting off the water and dunes make this spot truly magical.

5. The Giant Wheel at Fantasy Island - Beach Haven

Sadly, I have never been able to ride the ferris wheel at Fantasy Island, but boy does it sure look fun.  It offers an unbelievable view of the island below as you go round and round.  Hop aboard during the sunset to soak in the golden hour glow you can witness from the bay straight across to the beach a few blocks away.

Enjoy the Magic of LBI Sunsets!

No matter where you choose to watch, LBI’s sunsets are always spectacular. Grab a blanket, find a comfy spot, and enjoy nature’s nightly show. If you see a seagull soaring through the colorful sky, give a wave—it just might be me, Shelly!
